This includes upcycling, which entails recycling, reusing, and reinventing items that have lost their purpose over time. Upcycling is an excellent way to reduce waste and preserve resources.

Upcycling is the process of recycling or reusing items in a way that enhances their quality or value. It's thrilling to transform discarded materials into something amazing! Namrutha Ramanathan, an upcycling artist from Chennai, is doing incredible work with fabric waste. Her venture aims to eliminate fabric waste entirely by diverting it from landfills. Every day, 251 tonnes of fabric waste end up in landfills, and that figure increases by 8% annually. It's admirable to see that there's a fighting chance to put an end to this colossal waste! Currently, Namrutha handles around 50 kgs of waste per month.

How did she get started? It all began when the tailor next door discarded fabric waste every week without knowing where it ended up. Namrutha had the brilliant idea to convert that waste into something useful. During the pandemic, she used an altered nighty belonging to her grandmother to make masks. If one tailor can create so much value, why not others?

In conclusion, small ideas can turn into successful ventures that contribute to healing the Earth by reducing waste and promoting innovation in product design.
